When it comes to workplace injury compensation, certain questions bother employers: ‘How to determine if an injury is a work injury?’ If it is, then, ‘how should the compensation get paid out?’ ‘How long before the employee can get back to work?’ ‘Are there any long-term ramifications?’ While companies tend to be extra cautious toward compensation pay-outs, employees with health and financial issues keep struggling. In this tug-of-war between the employers and their employees, trust issues arise. Moreover, industrial clinics associated with companies tend to maintain a strictly professional relationship with the employees, further exacerbating feelings of alienation.

Having spent years in the emergency room in his long career as a medical practitioner—meeting both patients and their employers struggling with occupational health and compensation issues—Dr. Stephen Greene has seen it all! Committed to addressing the occupational medicine needs of employers and enhancing workers’ health, he founded ProActive Work Health Services (ProActive), which is a ‘family-oriented company doing business as a corporate entity.’ Serving as a one-of-a-kind clinic, ProActive aims to provide industrial healthcare with a homely approach. “We want to function corporately and meet our clients’ needs,” says Dr. Greene, ProActive’s Founder and Medical Director. “At the same time, we want patients to come in and feel respected and experience a home-like atmosphere.”

By offering extensive services like occupational care, pre-employment health checks, physical and orthopedic therapy, telemedicine, and more; ProActive takes care of everything a company needs to keep its workforce healthy. “My model at ProActive has always been one of concern and education,” remarks Dr. Greene. To that end, ProActive educates patients about industrial medicine and provides wellness programs to employees to better manage their medical issues that might aggravate work injuries.Simultaneously, ProActive acts as a bridge to remove the trust gap between employers and employees by resolving workplace injury issues and ensuring a smooth recovery and back-to-work process.

We just show them the old-fashioned, home-like warmth and courtesy from the time patients walk into the facility, consult the physician, get treated, and leave

“We just show them the old-fashioned, home-like warmth and courtesy from the time they walk into the facility, consult the physician, get treated, and leave,” explains Dr. Greene.

While ProActive primarily focuses on workplace injuries, that is not all the firm addresses. To highlight the effectiveness of ProActive’s services, Dr. Greene proceeds to cite a case study involving an employee with a shoulder injury. While it was initially believed to be an occupational injury, the wound turned out to be a tumor when tested at one of ProActive’s clinics. “We not only helped rule out the false fact of it being a work injury but also redirected the patient to a personal physician under a non-industrial basis, leading to subsequent successful treatment and recovery,” informs Dr. Greene.

ProActive’s reach is further seen in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has disrupted the lives of several employers and employees. With a large clientele of frontline employees facing the biggest brunt from the pandemic, ProActive—true to its name—functions quickly in providing telemedicine services. “We immediately took up our telemedicine program and began providing the necessary services to hospital workers from multiple hospitals in the LA area,” asserts Dr. Greene; adding that hundreds of patients were evaluated, provided with the necessary treatment, and successfully resumed work. All the while, ProActive took care of its facilities by implementing processes to ensure the safety of its staff.

ProActive maintains a positive outlook, preferring to view the pandemic as an opportunity to perform its best. It is, in fact, this optimistic business outlook that has helped ProActive evolve from a single clinic to a network of clinics spanning two states in 15 years. Going forward, Proactive plans to expand across other states in the U.S. and making ProActive synonymous with quality occupational care, which is a major part of Dr. Greene’s vision of extending homely warmth and courtesy to injured workers and helping companies to get their employees back to work quickly. “I want to do my best as a medical practitioner, businessperson, and leader of the people that work for me, and strive for excellence to do the best we can medically,” he concludes.
