Employee communication is vital for organizations to maintain healthy relationships with their employees
FREMONT, CA: Following the pandemic, recruiting has constantly been in flux. Many businesses are now in the unique position of aggressively filling unfilled positions at a rate they have never seen before. Employee communications are now even more critical as a strategy to connect and keep employees during and after these hard times for businesses that were formerly employing and enrolling in-person and, post-pandemic, have reconfigured to primarily remote.
Tips for improving communications during an increase in hiring
Make employees feel valued: Once the staff is on board, the sales pitch for hiring continues. Even tiny displays of gratitude can go a long way, especially in a flexible workplace when fatigue and a lack of responsibility are more common. It can involve giving employees Friday afternoons off, providing lunch at the workplace one day per week, or senior staff members reaching out to new coworkers to say hello. Get inventive and find out what the employees care about. Additionally, it helps employees feel more a part of the business.
Reinvent the water cooler: Building relationships amongst coworkers in this versatile workplace requires time management and dedication. For new employees, this is particularly difficult. Established casual "get-to-know-you" discussions for recruits but be sure to emphasize that there is no expectation that they will discuss business; otherwise, new hires may feel unduly pressured during their first few weeks.
At the corporate level, create space for a continuous feedback loop with employees: Monitor your well-being, trust, and contentment. Understanding how people feel becomes extremely important when employees expect more from their organization. When it comes to culture, work balance, and morale, keeping tabs on what employees are thinking and how they are doing emotionally and physically can help uncover holes that need to be filled. Additionally, it offers crucial information on what matters to employees and what you're doing right and should continue to be done throughout the company.
Make onboarding new employees part of everyone’s job description: Orientation and training of new employees used to be only the responsibility of HR and the manager, but it's now a business necessity that should concern several departments, including leadership, HR, communications, and marketing. While the firm may be responsible for establishing rules, the manager ensures that employees are engaged and that new proposals are successful with the help of internal communications and HR.
Please open the door early for brand ambassadors: No matter how dispersed they may feel without working from a shared physical location, employee communications develop culture and bring people together. Building a better business culture and promoting deeper involvement can benefit greatly from developing smarter employee communications. Modern businesses need to invest even more in these crucial communications to improve relationships across the board.
