Inclusive work culture can be created in multiple ways, such as ensuring that employees have a safe working environment, engaging with employees, and providing employees with multiple ways to provide feedback.
FREMONT, CA: In 2022, recruiting and retaining diverse employees is a priority. Therefore, diversity, equity, and inclusion trends are on everyone's mind.
After the Covid-19 pandemic, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the job market will grow from 153.5 million to 165.4 million over the next decade. In addition to hiring diverse employees, companies will have to figure out how to retain them once they are hired. Here are some ways companies can make their workplaces more inclusive.
Training on unconscious bias should be implemented: In a study by Hive.com, 71 percent of employees said they felt more confident, more engaged, and generally happier when they were able to be authentic at work. Minority groups are more likely to experience bias, resulting in fear of being themselves at the expense of their careers.
Minority groups feel unsupported and discouraged at work because of pervasive unconscious bias, despite the majority feeling comfortable showing up as themselves. Leaders should encourage and support employees' differences so that they can do their best work and feel like their best selves. By implementing unconscious bias training, employees can be taught how to treat colleagues with dignity and respect.
Mental health challenges should be stigmatized less: Employee mental health has been a major concern throughout the pandemic. USA Today reports that many employees feel isolated or socially limited, which can lead to anxiety and depression.
In the workplace, employers began implementing initiatives to normalize mental health challenges. In addition to providing free therapy and counseling resources both virtually and in person, companies are discovering new ways to support their employees. A focus on employees' mental health and well-being leads to greater productivity and longevity.
Work in a flexible environment: According to BBC.com, many companies offer employees hybrid or fully remote work options. In addition to addressing work-life balance, this allows flexibility for employees based on their health concerns. The virtual work environment will continue to be embraced by companies, who will offer new and improved ways to stay connected virtually. Support will be provided to young professionals, working parents and guardians, caretakers, and populations with special needs.
