HR professionals constantly face challenges from many different sources. Perhaps the most perilous issues for most involve compliance. Compliance requirements only grow more complex with time. Frequent regulatory changes related to safety, immigration, wages, employee benefits, and anti-discrimination often leave HR professionals navigating with little to no guidance. Unexpected events such as the COVID-19 pandemic only increase the speed with which HR professionals are expected to align workplace policies around new rules and realities. With personal and organizational reputations at stake, HR professionals need reliable partners who can guide them to make the right compliance decisions at the right time.

Founded in 1988, Admin America has established itself as a trusted employee benefits partner, helping small and medium sized companies stay ahead of compliance challenges. Originating as an administrator of Flexible Spending Arrangements (FSAs), Admin America evolved into a full-service employee benefits compliance consultant. Admin America helps HR professionals and professional advisors navigate their obligations under federal laws such as ERISA, COBRA, ACA, HIPAA, and FMLA as well as more recent laws responding to the COVID-19 pandemic such as the CARES Act and ARPA.

Admin America is powered by a small and passionate team of professionals including several that have served the company’s clients for over 20 years. When long term clients of the company call on Admin America for support, they are able to work with the same professionals year after year and discussions build on previous shared experiences. These client/consultant relationships result in better and faster solutions and a superior client experience.

These relationships also enable Admin America’s nimble administrative processes which support the unique needs of each client instead of subjecting clients to a one-size-fits-all approach. In addition to expertise and flexibility, Admin America separates itself with a focus on improving the physical

and financial health of individuals and their families. It does this not only by combining industry leading technology resources with the technical expertise of its team of professionals but also by cultivating into that a culture of empathy. “Unlike other service providers, we constantly focus on the specific situation that every individual we come into contact with is going through at that moment. And that has been frequently acknowledged by our clients. I get no greater pleasure in my job than when a client tells me how much they appreciate how one of our team members helped them with a difficult crisis situation,” says Trey Tompkins, President of the company.

As an attorney, Tompkins has spent years guiding employers and professional advisors through the frequent changes that impact employee benefit plans. That interaction often informs Admin America’s service offerings. For example, as Tompkins conducted seminars around the country in 2014 and 2015 regarding the ACA’s Employer Reporting requirements, he noticed how desperate employers and advisors were to find a solution tailored to their needs. The solutions that existed were not designed to serve small and medium sized employers and they certainly were not built to answer questions that HR professionals had about their own unique situations. In response, Admin America developed an employer reporting service that coupled the technological efficiencies with one-on-one consulting guidance. Several years later, that combination remains extremely rare, if not unique, among employer reporting services targeted to small and medium sized businesses.

Similarly, this March when President Biden signed ARPA into law along with its new COBRA premium assistance benefit, Admin America communicated an initial compliance roadmap to its COBRA clients and their benefits advisors within one hour. Within a week, Admin America was hosting webinars about COBRA premium assistance benefits. Over the next month, clients were scheduled for one-on-one telephone conversations to address their specific questions and concerns. Tompkins summed up Admin America’s approach to ARPA’s new compliance obligations by sharing that “this was just one more opportunity to show our clients and partners that we have their back when it comes to employee benefits compliance.”
