Most people reach executive positions through their strengths. However, the very traits that helped them become leaders may not be enough to sustain them in that position. They need to know the needs of their peers and subordinates and adapt in accordance to their workforce environment. “Conscious leaders are defined by the way they act. They are individuals who exhibit a more selfaware and mindful presence,” says Clifton Carmody, founder and principal of MNDFL LDR. In today’s time, as the pandemic is affecting so many lives, businesses and communities, Clifton recalls instances of CEOs panicking. During these circumstances, a conscious leader should acknowledge their vulnerabilities and work with their teams collaboratively to solve their challenges.

“Business leaders using conscious business principles can be the biggest catalyst for positive change in the community and the world,” asserts Clifton. MNDFL LDR, with Clifton at its helm, works with organizations and businesses across different verticals to help employees with leadership potentials, senior leaders, and CEOs/ small business owners become more effective through personal growth and implementing conscious business practices in the workplace. The company helps leaders learn to clearly define their goals and directions, work collaboratively with their teams, gain insights and perspectives, and improve their emotional intelligence.

MNDFL LDR caters to organizations, and small businesses in the hospitality, technology, legal as well as the cannabis industry and have even worked with behemoth and reputed entities such as Google. In addition to conducting one-on-one executive coaching, they also have special coaching and mentorship for hotel and restaurant senior leaders.

Clifton narrates a leadership transformation success instance of a Singapore-based non-profit organization’s managing director. Before being a part of the organization, the leader in question was CEO of a for-profit company and had all the experience to handle the transition to the new role efficiently. However, after a year, the board started raising concerns as there were many staff turnovers throughout the organization, and many of the employees during their exit interview gave negative feedbacks about the managing director.

Upon consulting with MNDFL LDR, who did their proprietary initial 360 feedback, the managing director realized that there was a communication barrier between her and the employees. Although she was a competent taskmaster, she failed to listen to the staff’s requirements and to create a room for discussion. After accepting and understanding her limitation, she made an effort to sit down with her employees and discuss the organizations’ challenges and ways to improve it. The subsequent 360-feedback follow-up revealed a sharp decline in turnover rates with the workplace becoming more collaborative.

Nurturing such leaders has been MNDFL LDR’s mission since its inception four years ago. Clifton fondly reminisces that a response to a question Clifton asked the Dalai Lama ignited his passion for helping leaders grow. The spiritual leader’s words ‘We need businessmen that are good people’ are the inspiration behind Clifton’s meaningful and hard work for all these years. He was formally trained as a coach by International Coaching Academy. After receiving his certification by the International Coaching Federation, he began training people to maintain a work-life balance. He later started MNDFL LDR to teach leaders conscious business techniques and practices. The company has since grown organically over the years with associates who believe in the same vision joining the team and working from Japan, Canada, to name a few.

Currently, in the time of a pandemic, MNDFL LDR understands the rising need for crisis management training for leaders. The company is assisting organizations with the training to address the uncertainties with their workforce, helping them tackle any issues together moving forward. In such times, what the world needs are socially conscious companies under the guidance of able leaders and MNDFL LDR will continue to do their part in building up such individuals. “With companies that we work with, we train leaders to identify and practice their values, thus creating a positive work environment for long term sustainability,” concludes Clifton.
