Making Workforce Data Trustworthy

Jeffrey Pfannenstein is director of HRIS at Post Holdings, where he leads initiatives that support workforce data, HR systems and business processes. His experience across HR technology, shared services and enterprise system delivery has given him first-hand insight of how workforce information influences decision-making at scale. His work centers on maintaining the integrity of workforce information so leaders can make decisions with confidence.

When Growth Outpaces Consistency

Workforce data becomes more difficult to manage as organizations grow.

New locations adopt different practices. Acquisitions bring established systems and reporting structures. Business units often evolve in response to local needs, but those differences can make it harder to maintain a shared understanding of workforce information across the organisation.

Pfannenstein has spent years working through those realities. His experience has shown that organizations rarely struggle because they lack data. More often, they struggle because different parts of the business interpret and manage that data differently.

That distinction matters. Leaders may have access to extensive workforce information, yet still spend valuable time validating reports before acting on them. The issue is not visibility. It is confidence.

Looking beyond the Technology

Many organizations assume technology will solve consistency problems.

Pfannenstein's experience suggests otherwise.

Throughout his career, he has worked on HR technology initiatives where the software performed exactly as intended, yet business challenges remained. Processes were defined differently. Ownership was unclear. Reporting standards varied across functions.

Those experiences shaped his view o f HRIS leadership. Technology provides the infrastructure, but trust in workforce information is built through governance, accountability and shared standards. Without those elements, even sophisticated systems can produce confusion rather than clarity.

Connecting Systems to Business Decisions

The expectations placed on the HR system have changed with time.

Workforce information now informs discussions about staffing levels, labor costs, organizational structure and long-term planning. Now, HRIS leaders influence how organizations use data to make business decisions.

Pfannenstein operates at that broader shift. His work involves helping ensure that workforce information remains aligned with how the business actually operates. That often requires collaboration across HR, payroll, IT and other teams responsible for creating, managing and using workforce data.

Employees may never see most of that work. Executives rarely think about the processes behind a dashboard or workforce report. What they do notice is whether the information supports confident decision-making.

Much of Jeffrey Pfannenstein's career has been dedicated to helping make that possible.
