The founding of BSDI is an interesting tale, indeed! In 1988, when Dr. Brittingham and his wife Pam Brittingham were given fitness tests at a local gym by a young trainer named Kelli Calabrese (now a nationally famous trainer and speaker), the fitness testing software had issues. Being a research scientist in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), Dr. Brittingham offered to build better software in exchange for a discount on their gym membership. For the next three years, Kelli continued to request new features and improvements to the software, and Dr. Brittingham continued to build them. In 1991, the software had improved to the point that Kelli suggested Dr. Brittingham get in touch with Dr. David Nieman, Fellow of the American college of sports medicine (FACSM). After testing the software, Dr. Nieman sent a message to Dr. Brittingham saying, “This software is light-years ahead of any package on the market! I have fired my programmer and set you up with a distributor! Call me!” Soon after, the software was named “The Fitness Analyst,” and BSDI was established.

Recently, BSDI launched the NextYou coach platform that contains all the assessment tools and programming options required to create healthy daily habits and to achieve lasting change over time.
