AUGUST 2019HR TECH OUTLOOK6HR professionals have many responsibilities, but none is more meticulous and intense than employee onboarding and recruitment. For starters, finding the right candidate itself is a challenge as the talent pool is minuscule when compared to the demand that exists. Then there is onboarding and retaining, which is altogether a different ball game. According to Harvard Business Review, 32 percent of global executives rate the onboarding they experienced as poor, in parallel, according to Center for American Progress, replacing each failed executive can cost a business up to 213 percent of the executive's salary. Hence, a streamlined onboarding is of utmost importance for employee retention, and ensure the best productivity, while keeping the expenses at a minimum.A significant trend, which HR professionals are keenly focusing on, is creating a personalized experience during the onboarding process. In fact, as of now, it is the best way to move forward as a tailor-made induction process makes an employee feel privileged. As per the Society for Human Resources Management, 54 percent of companies with personalized onboarding programs reported higher employee engagement. Besides, contributing to the whole concept of personalization are technologies such as AI, big data, ML, and more. By leveraging technologies such as these, HR professionals can gain actionable insights on the potential employee, and based on it can curate a well-thought-out plan for onboarding, including things such as employee's hobbies and interest.Furthermore, finding the right caliber candidate poses a challenge. Hence, organizations are competing with each other to recruit the right talent. Here too, an emerging trend of pre-boarding is gaining traction. It complements personalization and involves managers to interact with the new joiners. The managers start to interact with these employees via e-mails, inviting them to the future meetings, all to get them to feel acclimatized and be a part of the team, even before they file the first work report. In a nutshell, it will be interesting to see how the onboarding process will take shape in the near future.
